Reading and literature as two disciplines in Russian as a foreign language: specific features, methodological issues, and practice

Abstract

This article distinguishes between the concepts of "reading" and "literature" in the context of teaching Russian as a foreign language. The similarities and differences between the two disciplines are explored. Furthermore, the author analyzes the potential of classical Russian literature as teaching material for foreign students. Various approaches existing in modern methods of teaching Russian as a foreign language (RFL) regarding the study of literary texts by foreign students are explored. Furthermore, the author summarizes her own experience working with foreign students in literature classes.
