The article presents the results of a study of the qualitative properties of two-layer granules of nitrogen-containing fertilizers. Granulated and prilled urea, as well as prilled NPK fertilizer, were used as the initial granules. The first layer included a powdered phosphogypsum filler and a lignosulfonate solution as a binder, both components being industrial waste. The second layer was a protective shell based on stearic acid. The quality of the resulting granules was assessed based on surface quality, static strength, and the rate of dissolution of the granules in distilled water (prolonged effect). The results showed that the obtained fertilizers have an acceptable surface quality (smooth and uniform coating), increased static strength (1.4-3 times greater than that of the initial granules), and a prolonged effect (complete dissolution time of 5-7 days compared to 1-2 hours for the initial granules). The use of such fertilizers will reduce the volume of granules destroyed during storage, transportation, and soil application, as well as nitrogen loss due to soil transformation, which will minimize the negative impact on the environment. Furthermore, the inclusion of unclaimed chemical industry waste in the process is consistent with the principles of sustainable development within the framework of a circular economy.
